Owner: Kevin DeRusha
Kevin DeRusha has been working in the steel industry since 1975. After serving a three-year apprenticeship with the requirement of 6000 field hours, he received his journeyman ironworker’s certification from the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Ironworkers Union in January 1979.
He worked for seven years in heavy construction in the northern Minnesota region. He has experience in paper mill work, erecting steam generated power plants and intricate conveyor systems. He worked on numerous taconite facilities in the iron ore sector. Kevin also had the opportunity to work with numerous crane assembly operations and rigging projects.
In 1983 he moved to the southwest United States and started his own company, DeRusha Steel Erectors. After working on smaller projects, in 1989 he erected the stair systems for the sky boxes (see photo) at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona.
In 1990 he procured a contract to erect the new Terminal 4 building at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Arizona. With his own design of a unique crane system he was able to work with the Phoenix engineering department to complete the project ahead of schedule.
He has successfully completed more than 500 projects in multiple states.
